1st day of 3rd grade

First day of third grade went smoothly. Like the mug shots above? It's hard getting these two to smile at the same time while looking at me. They were giving me their, "hurry up mom and take your silly picture" look.

Little Iguy did well at home. He only asked for his brother twice. Fortunately is was only a half day. As soon a brother came home they played and didn't fight once.

Beat the heat!

We've been trying hard to beat this heat. Swimming twice a week and doing a little water play in the back yard.

Ever since we had a little fall into a hot tub, I-guy has been very slow to warm up in the pool. But, he has been letting his brother "teach" to swim (don't worry, we are never more the a couple feet away from those two!).

In other news, Super-E will be starting 3rd grade next Monday (Aug 17th)!!! Ugh! How did it sneak up on us so fast! I've got some major lunch planning to do. They have very strict food guidelines at his new Montessori school. Vegetarian (no problem), healthy and sugar-free. Hmmm. That means we might have to find something other than pizza rolls (yuk). We'll be looking through our veggie cookbook collection and picking things out. Maybe some healthy muffins, and finger foods with dips and lots of fruit. Super E is not a big fan of sandwiches or burritos, which makes it a little more difficult. We will see how it goes.

One good thing, we don't have to buy school supplies. We just donate a small amount for shared class supplies. This allows for less distractions during the day if everyone is using the same stuff. Cool! I totally dig that.

To celebrate the last day of school, we took the boys to get some gelato. They loved it. What's not to love? Cold creamy goodness?

All the little spoons were for trying different flavors. Super E picked Amaretto and I-guy picked chocolate.

T0morrow we will be watching Martha and then we will be planning out BIG trip to California. Yay! We can't wait!

Reunion Slide Show

I few pics of the reunion, mostly of the kids. They had so much fun. Poor I-guy never got a chance to ride on the horses because of an allergic reaction he had to the hay or the horses or both- who knows. He's never had a reaction like that before. Fortunately some benadryl was had and he was running around again, back normal, except with a puffy eye.

This weekend we are getting a desert tortoise. More pics on that coming soon.

We went camping in Madera Canyon. The weather couldn't have been more perfect. We found a great spot amoung other nice, polite campers and pitched our tent.

Five minutes after arriving, Super-E decided that camping was b-o-r-i-n-g... Not an hour later, he said (and I quote), "This is the best day EVER!"

Our camp spot had a great big area for the kids to run around and play. We went on two hikes, saw lots of beautiful birds, built an intense (E's words) and smokey campfire and roasted veggie dogs and marshmellows.

We'll be going on an even bigger camp trip in 2 weeks!

First Day and Catch up

Super E's first day of second grade was on Monday. He had a "really great" day of course. He said, "all the girls want to do is chase me around!" Great! (note of sarcasm here).

I-Guy was not so happy about the whole thing. Not only does he want to go to school too, but he needs his brother. He moaned about it all day. It was sad. Mommy and I-guy are planning to do pretend school on mommy's days off.

On another note, me and ry-daddy celebrated our 15th wedding anniversary at the beginning of this month. We enjoyed a nice vegan dinner out alone, courtesy of Uncle Tim.

Here's to many many more happy years of blissful marriage and happy family-ness.

These guys are turning into little fish. They have improved their swimming skills by leap and bounds. It's all they want to do!

Super-E *has* to have his goggles on at all times!

He can go under and dive for things on the pool floor.

I-guy wore floaties to build up his confidence from being dunked repeatedly by the swimming instructor.

He was floating around on his back (above) and jumping in with no problems by the end of the weekend.

Late "Happy Thanksgiving" greetings to all. I can't believe I haven't posted since Halloween.

We went up north a bit to hang with Ry-daddy's side of the family for thanksgiving. A fun time was had by all. We were able to spend time with family members we haven't seen in a in a long time and catch up. It was very nice. We even got to meet the newest member of the family. My new niece. Isn't she absolutely beautiful! I made sure to sneak as many kisses and snuggles as I could.

We also went on a hike along the Aqua Fria, which is currently bone dry. It was still nice getting some fresh air, even if it was windy and a bit chilly.

Super-E made a new friend in his second cousin. They were practically inseparable. Even though he talked non-stop about Star Wars, she found him hilariously funny and interesting. Or maybe it was his constant motion that she found intriguing. The fact that she stuck around to listen made them a perfect pair for the weekend.

Trick or treating

Here are some highlights of the night:
1. Eating this made for some interesting conversation at the dinner table: "If I eat both of the eyeballs then my noodles won't be able to see very well." Nice try buddy.
2. Super-I would scream "trick or treat!!" before we were anywhere near the door. Then he would say "thank you" before getting any candy.
3. Amazingly, Jedi-E hit only one man in the head with his lightsaber. It was bound to happen, right?
4. Jedi-E hummed the tune to Star Wars the WHOLE time we were trick-or-treating.
5. He also had three duals while we were out. Two with another jedi and one with Darth Vader.
6. Super I can run faster with a cape and super boots. Especially on an empty road. Believe me, we had to chase him!

Now, I have to promise (so that everyone can see) that we will get a pumpkin next year to carve, no matter what!! We had a little bit of a break down today because of the absence of said pumpkin. It's really not my fault. The stupid thing rotted right on the counter and we had to throw it away!! So, next year!!! I promise!!!

We went to Apple Annie's Orchard and Produce Patch in Willcox,Az on Saturday. Very nice day, except for the wind blowing dirt in poor I-guy's eyes. Oh, and the imaginary bugs that he kept screaming about.~at the pumpkin patch~

We spent the weekend up in Prescott. The weather was nice and we had a nice time visiting family. We always want to spend quality time with everyone, but we are stretched thin because so many family members live there. Not just my family but Ry-daddy's family as well. Not to mention good friends of the family that we weren't able to see, and we feel bad about that. Regretfully, there is only so much we can do.

Can you believe what a big boy he is. I can't. It really boggles my mind how quickly these little guys have been growing up. Sniff, sniff.Waiting for the bell to ring.

When Super-E got home from school, he said, "It was SO great!!" Then he told Aunt Jenny on the phone that, "I had more fun than anyone in the whole world!" Now THAT is a lot of fun for one little boy to have. He is in the the G.A.T.E program (gifted and talented... kinda bragging here) and I hope his enthusiasm lasts all year long.

I know, I know. Long time no post.

Ethan did his last play of the year- Goldilocks and the Three Bears. He was a tree with a small narration part. "Goldilocks went into the dining room, where she saw the three bowls of porridge. The porridge smelled good and Goldilocks was hungry after her walk."
Super cute was he- not nervous one bit.

We are very much looking forward to the end of the school year. We are going to have to come up with LOTS of fun things to do to keep the little ones from getting too bored. Moving to a new house will be one of the "fun" things we'll be doing this summer. We are looking for a more central spot. So, if any of you locals (you know who you are) want to pitch in, I'll get the beer and pizza!

Last Friday we made a little trip to Patagonia, Az. It's a teeney little town in southern Arizona. We played at the park and went to some of the little shops that are there. Holy cow! They are both looking in my direction and standing still!!

Just so I don't forget....
I-guy went for his 2 year wellness check-up and all went well, except for the end part. You do know what happens in the end part dont you? Well, I'll get to that in a moment. Here are his stats for the two year visit:

Weight: 30 lbs 4 oz (50-75th percentile)
Height: 36 7/8 inches (97th percentile)

He's getting so big. It's only a matter of time before my boys are towering over me!

Now, back to the Dr. visit. I-guy did very very well. He even opened his mouth for Ms. Doctor! After she poked and prodded, she confirmed that he is indeed a fine and healthy boy! Of course he is! Then the dreaded shot lady came in all unsuspecting, and BOOM daddy-o, in the leg with a needle! How dare she! She quickly left the room while I calmed my little guy and got him dressed. As we left the room, he spotted her in the back of the office and starting crying and pointing at her in a very accusatory manner! I am sure he told her off in his own little way. Good thing we don't have to go back again for another year (good for her anyway)!

Snow day!

School was delayed till noon and I had a 8 o'clock 4 hour work meeting cancelled! Wooo-hooo!! We played outside in the cold for a whole 15 minutes! We're not really equipped for the snow, or cold weather for that matter. We had to really scrounge for warm clothing and ended up smothering the kids in many many layers instead.

All the snow melted by 2pm. It was fun while it lasted!

First Hair Cut

We couldn't wait any longer. Originally, we had wanted to wait until I-guy was two before we cut his soft, pretty little tresses. Well, one month early, we just couldn't take the scraggly look any longer. Most of the time he has some type of food bits dangling from the back of his mullet-like hair-do. YUK! So in the chair he was strapped and wrapped up.

He kept wanting to look back at me to see what I was doing.

He was very good sport too, I might add. No crying or screaming. Just a little wiggling.
Ten minutes later we were done. YEAH!!!

This little pilgrim went to school today and did a special Thanksgiving Program for all the moms & dads. Unfortunately litte E has been under the weather with a cold which he gave to mommy, who gave it to I-guy, who finally gave it to daddy (Yep, it's been one of those long sleepless weeks). Anyway, because of his cold, he was looking a little uninterested in the whole thing. It was still very cute.

E brought home some school stuff home today: a turkey that says, "All I want for Thanksgiving is a little bit of mashed potatoes and some apple cider" and a pumpkin that says, "I am thankful for my car." Hmmm. Ry-daddy thought that was perfect. Men and their cars, I guess.

Anyway, it'll be just the four of us tomorrow eating our very yummy veggie dinner with some apple cider. Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Doctor Visits Today

The boys both had wellness check-ups today. Thanks goodness Ry-daddy came along to help. It was pure chaos! Hopefully we didn't overwhelm the poor doctor- whom I love by the way. She didn't lecture us about being vegetarian, or still breast feeding or not wanting to give the kids flu shots. She was cool and said my babies were very healthy and didn't need flu shots anyway!!! HA!!! I couldn't believe it! Finally a doctor on the same page as me!! She's a keeper!

The boys were actually very good. It just got a little crazy with 5 people in a very small examining room. There was toy noise along with the constant chattering of E and the squeaking shrills of I-guy. Ethan was asked what kinds of foods we eat and he said, "We eat A LOT of beans and do you know what my dad says? He says they are the magical fruit, but they're not really a fruit." Fortunately, she knew all about the bean song. You don't know it? Here it is:

The more you toot the better you feel,
so eat beans with every meal!

Anyway, we finally were able to see how much they have grown. Our scale is broken and we haven't put up E's height chart, so we have been dying to know. I just have to say were are going to have tall boys. Here are the stats:

Super-E
ht: 3feet 9.25inches (80th percentile)
wt: 50lbs (75th percentile)
I-guy
ht: 3 feet (100th percentile)
wt: 27 lbs 12 oz (50th percentile)

* the percentile is a comparison to other children of the same age. 80th percentile (for example) means that child is taller(bigger) than 80% of the children his age.

Then the shots came. Super-E was very brave, took it in the arm, and did not cry at all. I-guy on the other hand got very upset. And for the rest of the day, every time he saw his bandaids, he'd cry "Owwww!" and point at his legs in a very sad way. He also was very cranky- do you blame him! One shot in each leg- poor little guy!

Food Fund

The first thing E does when he gets home from school is have a snack (or two) and a big cup of water. Today he had half a sandwich, a granola bar, some fruit and a few gummy worms. Yet, only an hour later, he'll do his little whiney song about being hungry. It doesn't stop until we sit down for dinner.The other little guy, he eats all day. One thing right after another. The only time he stops is when he naps. When he wakes up, there better be something for him to eat or he is NOT happy!!!
The eating NEVER stops around here. It's a constant. So forget the college fund. We need money for food- because if they're eating this much now, I can't even imagine what it will be like in 10 years!! So go ahead and click on the "E&I Food Button" to donate now.

It's finally been nice enough to go outside and enjoy the wonderful cool weather. Mosquitoes are almost gone and the ants are heading home to hibernate. Thank goodness!

Today is my precious little sis's B-day and last Friday was her handsome hubby Chris's B-day (I did not forget btw, just had to work 3 in a row which is almost like falling off the face of the earth for 3 days).

Chewy Energy Circles

After a little hike in the woods,Super-E decided we needed more energy.So, he made us some Chewy Energy Circles from Mollie Katzen's Salad People Cookbook... with a little supervision from I-guy.Then I-guy licked the spoon
and stirred up some imaginary cookie dough. Then the best part came when they got to gobble up the yummy cookies.

We found this book at the public library. It is so refreshing to be able to go the library and find more than 5 vegetarian/vegan cookbooks that weren't written in the early 1970's. This book is so wonderful. It's written and illustrated by one of my favorite vegetarian cookbook writers Mollie Katzen. She also wrote The Enchanted Broccoli Forest and Moosewood Cookbook which are two of my all time favorite cookbooks. The reason this book is so great is that it is geared towards kids 4 years and up. It has 20 fabulous kid friendly recipes with illustrated instructions for the kiddos. Super E has been looking through it for the last couple of days, all ready to make something yummy. The book also has detailed instructions for the parents to make it an easy and pleasurable kid cooking experience. It's defintiely a book I'd like to add to my collection someday.

My little Hikers

We went on a nice hike on Mt. Lemon with the boys yesterday. Ry-daddy and Uncle T took turns carrying I-guy in the carrier and Super-E hiked the 3 miles with very little assistance. The mountain is only a 30 minute drive from our place to get to 7000 feet with 75 degree temperatures. A perfect escape from 95 degree heat in Tucson. He's just not used to the regimented routine of school being that he never went to preschool. This picture was taken when we picked him up from school yesterday. TODAY: He announced that he has a new friend named Maggy. He saved a seat for her at lunchtime and she sat with him. He also has a buddy named Shane who he has already invited over to play. He's so cute!

All ready for the first day!First day of school has begun for my little Super E. He woke up this morning bright & cheery ready to go to school. We were worried last night because he seemed a bit more clingy than usual and had a major break down for what seemed like no reason at all. We thought that maybe all this change and excitement was getting to be too much. But, we were very happy to see him smiley and excited this morning.

I packed his lunch(inspired by the vegan lunchbox) with veggie rolls (tortilla, tofurkey slice, soy cheese, lettuce and dressing), organic strawberries, carrots with ranch dressing, 2 peanutty cookies and a juice box. I've never been a big fan of juice- especially in a box, but he's in school now and will be surrounded with these type of things whether I like it or not. I'll just have to do what I can on our end at home to keep it all balanced. He's very excited about his lunch. I imagine he'll be starving by the time lunch time comes around because he usually eats all day long at home.

Am I ready for this? Can you see the tears starting to well up in my eyes and the huge lump in my throat? It's really hard to put your child's life in someone else's hands for 6 hours a day -5 days a week. Especially when he's been with us his whole life
(except for day care a couple of days a week for a very short time). And it's so quiet without him around. Usually it's non-stop talking and singing all-day-long! I miss it already. I-guy has taken over as the non-stop eater though. He's been standing in the kitchen or in front of the pantry door all morning long. I guess we are just not used to giving I-guy snacks. Usually Super-E shares his.

Tomorrow I'll report on his first day. I hope he loves his teacher, makes lots of friends and has a blast at school.

Last days of summer vacation

Havin' fun in the sun. Super E starts kindergarten on Tuesday. He seems pretty excited, but doesn't really understand that he'll be going all day- 5 days a week. I think he'll love it anyway. He's got his lead-free lunch box, backpack and new socks and undies- He's all ready to go. We decided to not get him any new clothes since Miss Sarah (his new teacher) says they'll be getting quite messy throughout the day. He's already got plenty of clothes perfect for getting messy. Poor little I-guy won't know what to do without his big brother around torturing him all day- poor thing.

We are having a poopy week. Both the little guys are having tummy issues. One had grossness coming up the north end and the other has is coming out the south end- if you catch my drift. We HAVE to get it all cleared up before our long drive in 6 days!!! Super E is starting to feel better, but I-guy has the most raw little behind you've ever seen. He just has the most sensitive skin!

We went to visit daddy yesterday at the Crow Mansion, one last time (today is Ry-daddy's last day). While visiting, we were talking to some of the lady's that work there.

E : "I (guy) is the shy one"
Them: "oh yeah, are you ever shy?"
E: "hmmmm, not really much."

Super E then proceeded to the back of the room to throw up on the floor. Poor guy wasn't feeling too well. You'd have never guessed he wasn't feeling well with his cheerful attitude. To make matters worse, he had his first dentist appointment a bit later. We were going to cancel it, but decided we might as well get it over with. He was a champ. He asked the dentist lots of questions, got x-rays and had his cute little teeth cleaned. The dentist said we should be expecting his first tooth to fall out by November! November?!?!?!?!?! I'm just not ready for all this. First school and now teeth falling out! What's next? A beard and mustache?

Anyway, I asked E how his dentist appointment went and he said it was "okay". Then I asked if he liked the suction thing while they were cleaning his teeth and he said, "Not really much."

I won't be posting much more after this until we are settled in AZ.

We bought this game for Super-E as a birthday gift. We saw it when were at the toy store yesterday and he was immediately drawn to it. I was able to pick out a couple of toys without him even noticing because he was so busy working on it. So I added it to my cart and was able to drag him out of the store without him even noticing the big bag under the stroller.

We only gave him a few gifts yesterday, and were planning on giving him the rest on Saturday, but he kept talking about this puzzle game, wanting to go back to the store to play with it. So finally, Ry-daddy and I decided to give it to him (by hiding it in the frig) and when he opened the frig door to get something, he was so surprised! He's been playing with it ALL DAY LONG!!! He couldn't wait to get home from the grocery store so that he could play with it. It comes with 52 cards with different designs and you have to figure out how to place the shapes to create the design on the card. It's supposed to be for ages 8 and up, but he's pretty good at it. The answers are on the back of each card, which he uses, but he also does them without looking too! I tell ya, the kid really blows me away.

Because he makes my heart swell and melt, he tickles my funny bone and fills me with joy, he both amazes and astonishes me. He is spirited, dazzling and bright. I-guy found this hat in the toy box and has been wearing it around the house! He looks so darn cute in it I could just squeeze him and bite off all his toes!!! (oh, sorry- sometimes I get a little carried away- he's just so cute, don't you think?)

I made Super-E some homemade *play* dough over the weekend because his store bought is all dried up and gross. So, I found THIS recipe and it works great. E has been playing with it everyday sonce I made it. I just made one batch of the recipe and divided it into 4 pieces, then added the food coloring.

We went to see the fireworks last night. Not knowing where to go, we finally decided to park on the top of a mall parking garage where others had gathered to see the firework. First, it started pouring rain, but that only lasted about 10 minutes. Then when the fireworks finally started you could barely see them over 3 building that were blocking our view. Thinking our efforts were a total bust, we were pleased to see that Super- E had a fabulous time despite the rain and view. He was screaming with delight and dancing around with joy! That's what it's all about anyway- right?Hope everyone is have a very nice 4th of July day!

Our Tucson Place

We found a place to rent. We'll be renting for a year so that we won't be rushed in buying a house, and we can really decide where we want to live. There wasn't very many good pictures of the house, but this will be the view outside our back yard. Aren't those mountains great! Not having any mountains here, it will be nice to see this beautiful view on a daily basis.

We will be really close to some great hiking area close to mountains and very close to a really good elementary school. Super E will be a little cougar!

Meet Sinah

This is the infamous Sinah (pronounced the same as Dinah). She is Super E's most favorite imaginary friend. If you don't know anything about her, here is an extensive list about her as told by Super E.

1. She was born in 2004, just a few months before the arrival of I-guy
2. She is now almost five (just like E). (imaginary people age a little faster than real people)
3. She drives a super-fast car that can get her ANYWHERE in a BLAST!
4. Her favorite places to go are Colorado (to see uncle J), Arizona (to see all of our family) and California (to see Grandma Cindy).
5. Once she drove all the way to Colorado and back in one day!
6. Sometimes she goes on big adventures to the Big Apple.
7. Her favorite thing to do is play with Super E.
8. When mom and dad aren't looking, they like to play obstacle games, hopscotch and bounce (especially at night when they should be going to sleep).
9. Together with E, she loves watching Mr. Rogers and the Big Wide World AND playing on the computer.
10. She and E like to tell scary stories together, but they don't get scared because they have each other.
11. Reading books is another favorite thing to do.
12. Sometimes she goes camping with her family.
13. Her favorite color is red, but sometimes she likes green.
14. She does not eat a single meat, because she loves animals.
15. She loves to eat blueberries, strawberries, apples, noodles and green stuff.
11. She loves to look at pretty things like trees, grass, flowers, mountains and the sky.

Strawberry, blueberry Pops

1 cup organic frozen strawberries
1 cup organic frozen blueberries
1 cup water
1 banana (for sweetness)
1 tbsp agave nectar (or to taste)

Whiz together in blender until liquefied. Pour into popsicle cups with sticks and freeze at least 4 hours.

The kids loved these. I should have taken a picture of them both yesterday- they had it all over them like war-paint. Ya know, you leave them alone for just a few seconds!!! I tell ya!

At an art festival

We were kicked out of house yet again by more home shoppers all day Saturday, so we went to another art festival to get out of the house.

Fortunately, all of our house cleaning, rushing the kids out of the house, and sitting out in the heat has paid off. Our counter offer was accepted (yipee!!!) and we are now in our 3rd day of the option period (4 more days to go). Hopefully our home inspection will go well and we'll be on our way to AZ by the end of July! Now, we are getting ready for a massive yard sale. We are liquidating BIG TIME!

Here is a picture I haven't shared yet. It's a couple of weeks old. This is where I-guy likes to sit. Sometimes when it's really quiet and I'm busy cooking dinner I'll stop and wonder where he went. It's usually here. He gets up there by himself and just sits and plays. He's eating a raisin in this picture and Ethan like to put this crown on him every once in a while.
For some reason I felt compelled to take a picture of my mosquito bitten finger and share it. I just thought it looked kind of cool. Looks like a perfect TB skin test (in the wrong spot of course). heh, heh.

Don't ever buy V-smile Pocket Learning System. It was a great gift from my sister for Super-E, while it lasted. It's been broken since March and he got it for Christmas. From what it looks like, it not at the fault of him, but the product is just not made well. It got some horrible reviews on Amazon and here is why: a) It uses up 4 AA batteries in a period of about 3 hours b)the jack to connect to the TV only works if you hold it in a certain way, c) The AC adapter does the same thing and no longer works and d) the cartridges are $20 a pop! Over all it's a waste of money. Now we have a collection of cartridges that are good for nothing!! We're not sure about going through the trouble to get him another because we'll just end up with the same problems. He sure did love it while it lasted though.

Lately Super E has really gotten into cooking shows. We sit and watch them together. He really thinks Rachel Ray is silly and does funny things. The other day she made GORP (trail mix) and he thought that was pretty fan-tas-tic! He's also been wanting to play less on the computer. Hmm.

Another thing he loves is seeing what Shmoo has been eating for lunch every day at the Vegan Lunch Box, which is one of my favorite website. Jennifershmoo (the mom) takes a lot of care to make the most amazing lunches for her little guy every day! She also won the 2006 best blogger award for best food website! If you haven't seen it yet- check it out!! She made some awesome vegan twinkies (twinkies aren't even vegetarian by the way- they may contain beef fat!) She made them using a very cool twinkie kit* and then used the same kit to make vegan corn dog's. Very cool I think!! I promised Super E that we would get him a lunch box like Shmoo's when he starts school in August. He's very excited about that.

*I've looked all over the net for this twinkie kit and can't find it. Bed Bath & beyond used to carry it, but the stores here in Dallas don't have it. If anyone finds this kit, snatch it for us and I'll pay you back :)

A day at the park

My camera is broken, so these are pictures from last Wednesday. We were kicked out of our house for 3 hours so that a bunch of real estate agents could tromp through our house. I drove to 4 different parks before finally settling on this one. They were all have construction work done to them, even this one, but I was tired of driving around. The kids still had a grand time, even though most of the park was fenced off. And poor Super E had to swing on the baby swings because there were no big kid swings. He just barely fit.

A Day at the Lake

We went to Grapevine Lake today. Slathered on the sunscreen and spent a few hours in the sun, hiking around the lake. The guys had a great time throwing rocks and getting dirty. Just a nice beautiful day with my guys.

Lately, a lot of people have been asking me if I am STILL breastfeeding as if it were some kind of burden to them. Yes I am! Going on 15 months. Even my pediatrician seems to feel the need to talk to me about weaning and stopping (someone who obviously knows very little on the subject)! And just to set the record straight, I am weaning! Just very very s..l..o..w..l..y. I plan on sticking with it for quite a while longer. After all, I'm not working. What else have I got to do that I can't stop for 15 minutes a couple of times a day and spend some one-on-one quiet time with my precious little baby. He won't be this small much longer. It's a perfect way to stop what I'm doing, slow the clock a little, and cherish every moment.

The idea of stopping makes my heart ache so much. I can not bear the thought of not doing it. Stopping means that he is growing up and I want to enjoy his smallness as long as I can. I know after I-guy, I will never breastfeed again and breastfeeding both of my children has been one of the greatest joys in my life. I can't begin to explain the closeness and deep bonding you feel when you snuggle up with your child and began to nourish them in this way. It is my body that fills his body up with delicious nutrients and love. I know I can give them nourishment and love in so many other ways, but nothing is as personal and totally of myself. Super E watches me feed I-guy sometimes and I know he feels the importance of it. He hears the stories of our breastfeeding experience and I hope he will carry it with him always. I can't think of a better gift or more important way to start a babies life out. Giving completely of yourself as a mother, protector and provider.

I know breastfeeding won't last forever, but for now, we are very happy doing what we're doing.

Another quick post with a few pictures.Here is Super E showing off his new Soccer Trophy. He had his last game last Thursday. Afterwards, they all went out for ice cream. Here is what he had to say about the season.

"I tried really hard all season long to make a goal. I didn't get a single goal in the whole wide world, but I did make two goals at some other games. I did get a trophy and that is something really good for me. "

I was pointing out to him all the chocolate finger prints on it and he said to me, "Well mom, that will be your new job. Just clean it and make it shiny everyday!"

Here is Super-E sportin' his new t-shirts that mommy made using freezer paper and fabric paint. You can see how it's done here. He loves his new shirts screaming, "these are PERFECT!!" when I showed them to him. He has plans for me to make more. I'd like to make some for I-guy too. It's really fun.

As you can see, Super-E is looking a lot happier today. Today he'll be meeting up with his soccer team for a final game against Black Magic (if it doesn't rain) and ice cream at Braum's!! He's very excited about that!! Can you tell?

I-guy is in better spirits today as well. Unfortunately he keeps rubbing snot all over his face with the back of his hand and is not suitable for picture taking (per his request). Maybe tomorrow.

Tears, Tears, and More Tears

The first thing I think of when I see the word liquid (relating to family) is breastfeeding (I-guy is going on 14 months-yeah!). But, after a day like today, all I can think of (see and hear), are tears. Not tears of joy- nope tears of.......I don't know what. The guys are just feeling crumby today. I-guy is still a little snotty and congested which I'm sure is not making him feel very well and Super-E is just plain upset because Gracie (our neighbors grandchild) hasn't been able to come over and play. To make matters worse, Ry-daddy and I are starting to feel the stresses of having the house up for sale. Why gosh, I feel like crying right now......bwaaaaaa- waaaaaa-waaaaa.

Okay, sorry. I lost control. When ever the kids are both crying at the same time, sometimes Ry-daddy and I start wailing too(just for fun). Usually I-guy is the first to stop. He just looks at us like "what the heck are these two doing?". Super E usually stops soon after because he has to try not to laugh! Pretty soon we're all laughing. It's a fun game.

Just a fun little picture showing how wild my guys can get. In these pictures they are doing a little dance- getting jiggy with it! Don't worry, we weren't playing any country music, they were just taking turns wearing that cowboy hat. It was pretty funny. Oh, and there was no music playing- just me singing. Yeah, I can sing a tune or two. I must be pretty good at it because Super-E kept asking me to sing it over and over! Yes, he's had his hearing checked.

After we did some dancing, there was a little wrestling match between Super E and I-guy. Really it's just them hugging each other and rolling around on the ground screaming. Another pretty funny site.

On the verge

I-guy is all better from his cold, Super-E got sick a couple of nights ago and has been sleeping with me, Ry-Daddy started feeling bad yesterday and is sleeping in the spare bedroom, and now I feel that I am on the verge of getting it too!! It's been a snot-filled past couple of days and I forgot to buy tissue at the store today!!
You can tell that I-guy is feeling much better because he has discovered that he likes running through the curtains. Of course, we don't like him to do this because he could 1) hurt himself and 2) rip the curtains down. He knows this, so he only does it when he thinks we aren't looking. We were able to get this picture by pretending that we were busy talking. He's a sneaky guy. He's a very brave little fellow too. Much more of a climber than Super-E was. He climbs onto Super-E's bed, onto the couch, anywhere he can hike up his little leg up and grab hold of something to yank himself up. A monster I tell you! And if you so much as slightly raise your voice to him, the lip hangs down and he'll give you the saddest cry you ever heard.

We had a very nice visit with Mike & Miya. The weather turned on us a little which is a good thing because it was starting to get humid, sticky and heavy! Ugh! We had no problem getting their RV in the driveway. We had Subey (the car) in the garage and the sub-hog(suburban) parked to the left of the basketball post in the grassy area. Super-E thought they brought the RV for his own play-house pleasure!Auntie Miya read stories, played hide-the-ball, and pretend driving in the RV and Uncle Mike brought his remote-control truck, so Super E had a fine time and didn't want to see them go.

I-guy is wearing the cutest little hat that Mike & Miya brought for him. He actually wears it for more than 10 minutes at a time. He's also feeling much better today.

Yesterday we left I-guy in the living room playing with a cake lid/bucket-like bowl. Came back to find this!!! Funny and talented!

Mike & Miya are here in Dallas visiting us. Ethan is having a grand time with Auntie Miya. Today Ryan is giving them the grand tour of the library. I'm stuck here with the kids (just kidding). We might go out later to show them the rest of the BIG D, maybe not. I-guy has a runny nose and isn't feeling too well. Poor guy.

Careworn

Careworn is when your hubby is away in NYC and you are alone with the kids all day with no relief. And you realize that with out this man you'd be a pile of mush because he does so much. Even though he is only away for one night and two days you miss him because he makes life better, easier, happier, funnier.

Careworn is being tired and unable to sleep through a long night of thunderstorms and worrying that the kids will wake and be scared. They don't -they just sleep.

Careworn is tirelessly keeping your home clean and then watching it become a disaster zone within minutes.

Careworn is having to laugh when your child says embarrasing things to strangers.

Careworn is watching your children change right before your very eyes- growing taller, walking, talking, learning- and not wanting to miss a single second.

Careworn is being too tired to play and watching yourself grow old- new grey hairs, saggy boobs, wrinkles, achy back & legs.

Careworn is loving your family so much that is makes your heart, soul, body and head ache. It makes you want to cover them up like a steel blanket to protect them forever. But you just gently hold their hands and guide them with love the best you can. Always wanting to let them be free, enjoy and experience life- having them know that you are always within arms reach.

Careworn is worrying, loving, growing, learning. It can wear you thin. But every second, every smile, every tear, every laugh - it's all worth it!

He says the funniest things!!!

Those of you lucky folk who know my little Super-E know what a friendly chap he is. Sooooo talkative and energetic! Where he gets this from we do not know. Here are a couple of stories to tickle your funny bone.

STORY # 1
We went to Whole Foods Market yesterday and here is the conversation that Super-E had with the cashier (who was wearing a wrist splint)

E: Is that an owie? (pointing to her wrist)
Cashier: Oh, yes it is.
E: How did you get it?
Cashier: Um, I think I fell down (obviously wanting to give a simple answer)
E: I have 2 owies on my knees. (shows her his knees with a scrape and a bruise)
Cashier: oh I have a bruise on my knee too (she shows him her knee)
E: How did you get that?
cashier: I probably fell down.
E: Well, you should be more careful!
Cashier: So should you.
E: Yeah but I'm a little kid.

The cashier looks at me laughing and says, "You've got yourself a regular wise-guy on your hands!"

Yep, I sure do!

STORY # 2
This happened today at dinner. Ethan is always saying "huh?" when we are telling him or asking him something. Ry-daddy gets a real kick out of this and will teasingly say "huh?" back repeatedly. Today Ethan was getting a little frustrated with this type of tom-foolery and replied in a very loud voice:

"Sometimes I say huh because I can't hear you and other times I say it because I don't understand what the heck you are talking about!!"

Well, there you have it. Our little funny guy.

I have been trying to write down funny little things that Ethan has said because everyone knows that the human brain grows holes in it as you age and things, like memories, fall out and get lost. I'd like to remember these funny things by posting about them so they don't get lost. Unfortunately, I can't find the paper I had been jotting down his funny stories on.
